2009 ANNUAL REPORT - A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Despite the challenges that the Global Financial Crisis threw up for all Australian charities, 2009 was a year of growth for the Bill Hutchison Foundation. The Board of Directors this year approved some exciting new initiatives while keeping a close eye on the realities of financial constraints and our ability to deliver programmes to the highest standards with modest means.
We have the good fortune, of course, to work with a number of reliable and similarly cautious but forward-looking partners. Our major partner, the Essendon Football Club, not only had a good year on the field but continued to enhance its reputation as a significant contributor to the community. Thanks to the strength of the EFC community affairs programme and our partnership with the Club, we are able to offer innovative joint programmes that get to the heart of our harm-prevention mandate.
I take this opportunity, also, of thanking our other partners and of course those who have supported our work financially. The members of the Bill Hutchison Club are the backbone of our support. Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court helps to make our work possible. Thanks go also to the corporations and individuals who recognize the power of sport to make a difference in children’s lives in so many ways and who put their trust in the Foundation to harness that potential for the good of children in Victoria and beyond.
Some of the new programmes initiated in 2009 are detailed in this edition of our Annual Report. Others are just getting under way and will be included in next year’s report.
