Fifty children from an indigenous football/netball club in Shepparton called Rumbalara will be treated to a ‘behind the scenes’ experience at Windy Hill this coming Thursday 10 July, as part of a partnership between Macquarie Sports and the Essendon Football Club’s ‘On The Ball’ program.

Essendon rookie Jarrod Atkinson played for Rumbalara for two years and will be on hand to facilitate the ‘On The Ball’ session, along with several members of the Melbourne Vixens including Bianca Chatfield and Caitlin Thwaites

The aim of the ‘On The Ball’ program is to address the issue of harm prevention, by building resilient adolescents that have the capacity to face, overcome and be strengthened by adversity. The children from Rumbalara will take a tour of Essendon’s Hall of Fame, participate in a netball and football clinic and conclude with a session in the Essendon auditorium, covering the key messages of the ‘On The Ball’ program. Macquarie Sports, a division of the Macquarie Group Foundation, has provided funding for the program for the past three years.

Macquarie Sports has been running sports clinics for 10 years, reaching more than 20 000 children a year.  All clinics are hosted by national and or international sporting identities in rugby, cricket, AFL, rugby league, netball and basketball, enabling children to learn from their role models. Such role models include Liz Ellis, Nathan Hindmarsh, Matthew Hayden and John Eales
